A brief mention before I get into the main topic today. This is our 100th weekly update! That feels kind of insane to me :).
A few major changes are happening and I want to all let you know what's going on and why. Firstly, I've been a bit low lately. The constant mentally on-call bit of running your own business takes its toll a lot more than you might expect, on top of this, I'd only been paying myself $50 a week of guilt free spending. Combining the 2 left me feeling very stressed out all of the time and I ended up spending a lot of it in bed watching Youtube videos.
After talking to friends, family, and my employee, the general consensus is that I haven't been paying myself nearly enough, and that needs to change. As such I've given myself a significant pay rise.
The reason this is so important to mention is that because I hadn't been paying myself enough, I was using a lot of aspects of the business for some personal bits and pieces, and also realized those weren't actually making me happy.
As such the business is changing to focus more on making profit as its own entity, and will be doing less to pick up stock that makes me, personally happy.
First things first, the Buylist has undergone a massive update, but the important bit is that we are now paying more money for cards that we have an easier time moving, and less money for those we don't.
I will no longer be purchasing gorgeous old school cards (particularly Alpha/Beta) at the rate I was before. I will still be purchasing them, but only at a rate that makes it profitable for the store to do so.
For those that attend Dunedin events regularly, you will know that I've been doing Megazone Credit for Magic at Willis Credit at the end of those events to buy board games with. I will no longer be doing this. At the very least any of this needs to come out of personal spending, so any of this I do will be at a reduced rate.
There will likely be other changes too, but these are the big ones that come to mind right now. Some of these changes will come as quite big surprises, but I really appreciate all of your support as we continue on this journey together.
