Hi All,
I hope your Hobbit Prereleases were fun and you opened good cards. A reminder that we don't buy Hobbit cards until Monday, 17th of August, the Monday after Release Weekend (Though with boxes being sold on Prerelease Weekend, I can certainly understand some confusion).
This is, of course, unless you have either of the Boxtoppers with art by Rebecca Guay (non-foil), which we have a paying customer for, so we are happy picking up 1 of each at their current prices. The 2 cards are:
Galadriel's Dismissal
Galadriel, Light of Valinor
There are a few more cards to go into the store from our Dunedin Trip, but if any of them sell for more than $5, then I haven't been doing my job correctly.
I got into Competitive Brawl this week. I'm having fun, with mixed results, though I seem to be winning more than I lose, so that's good. It's not any of the top decks in the format and is infact my own brew, but it's exactly my style of deck and I get to play a Commander I haven't played since it was banned there in 2007.

At its core, this is a combo deck. Play Rofellos into a silly 6 or 8 drop that wins you the game. Unfortunately, my opponents don't seem to like me untapping with Rofellos, so we have all the zero and 1-mana ramp spells, along with all the 1-mana protection and some ways to make him Uncounterable.
This often isn't enough, so we need to figure out a game plan for when we are playing without Rofellos. X-Cost creatures, I have come to quite like, as they are versatile on low mana but also powerful with Rofellos.
The uncounterable, untargetable, often Protection from Blue creatures are there because there are a bunch of control decks in the format, and specifically a monoblue deck usually playing Katara, Waterbending Master and sometimes playing Namor, the Sub-Mariner. Usually with the goal of countering or bouncing or otherwise removing everything you play while overwhelming you with card advantage.
Lastly, there is a 2-card instant kill combo with Tooth and Nail (and Defense of the Heart before it was pulled out for not pulling its weight). Surrak + Goreclaw with Jumbo Cactaur. Makes my inner Timmy happy.
Anyways, that's all from me this week; see you all in 2 weeks, hopefully with some exciting news about card show appearances.
