Your Bi-Weekly Update with Willis 13-02-2023

So I've been doing some drafts of the new set. As you may have heard it is AGRRRESSIVE. Fast and aggro. I've done about 7-9 drafts at this point, my 2 7-win successes being the BW draft above and this one:

My thoughts so far. I really don't like playing cards that are almost exclusively creatures that can't block. 1/1's with toxic that can't block and proliferate can get you wins, but when you are stone-walled there's just no coming back from that. So I prefer my early drops to be creatures that can block and even better if they have deathtouch or more than 1 health. There are a heap of incidental cards in the format that kill 1 health minions.

Removal is king. Removal is king in most formats, but there are some where you can get away with taking a high synergy card over removal. Not in this format, removal over everything except bombs.

Speaking of bombs, because the format is so aggressive it's hard to play around bombs, so when they come down they often win the game unless you have removal then and there. At the same time, some of the biggest bombs cost 6-7 mana and sometimes games just end before you can reach that much.

Part of me loves aggressive formats, though I'm more of a fan of formats where there are other strategies in addition to a very good aggressive deck, but another part of me almost feels sick of this format already, so we'll see.
