Your Bi-Weekly Update with Willis 15-07-2024

Hi All,

I have so much to talk about. Bloomburrow spoilers have begun and everything is freaking adorable <3. I have a commander deck I'm building that I want to talk about. Actually that was the topic I had for 2 weeks ago, but I had just had 2 teeth out and my gums were in intense pain. The painkillers weren't really helping XD.

But the most important stuff first. We will be in Invercargill for the Undy Hundy on the first weekend in August. Hopefully making FNM on Friday and then at Gamers United all day Saturday and Sunday.

Even if you aren't planning to play in the Undy Hundy itself, I recommend coming down. We will be bringing as much cash as we can and a pile of singles to hopefully grab your attention. If you are looking at moving cards you've had sitting around forever or need a little bit extra cash, or just want to browse what we have come down to Gamers United 3rd/4th of August!

Next up we have a working date for the next big legacy/modern in Dunedin. 28th/29th of September. Like last time I will be putting up cash for first each day, though unlike last time the amount of cash will depend on player participation. So bring your friends out of the woodwork and lets make for a great, fun weekend!

Last announcement is we have some ~40,000 bulk commons and uncommons to go to a good home. We have been giving them to a local school, but after taking cards from us over the last 4 or so years they are now full up and can't physically fit any more cards in. If you have an idea of a place that might appreciate them, please let me know. Cards will need to be picked up.

Right, with all that out of the way I've been working on a special EDH/Commander project, and it's my hope that some of you will find the idea cool enough to try it out yourselves.

Outlaws of Thunder Junction is our 100th expansion, and Commander decks are 100 cards big, so you probably see where I'm going with this. Expansions only include sets that have gone through standard, but not ABU or any of the core sets. This means no Commander sets, no Horizons or masters sets. The first set is Arabian Nights and this goes all the way through to Outlaws of Thunder Junction.

My deck is Questing Beast, and before you all grown about how much you hate the card, just hear me out. How many of you are aware of Questing Beast in Folklore? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Questing_Beast In essence it is the Beast people go on Quests, or send others out on Quests to defeat.

And that is the theme of my deck. Creatures you might be sent on a Quest to defeat. From early level ogres like Ghazban Ogre, to strange creaturs like Floral Spuzzem, to big mighty tyrants like The Tarrasque. This deck tasks you, the opponent to go on a quest and defeat the monsters within.

Me being me, I'm trying to build it on a budget of around ~$100USD, and I'm also attempting to not use any proxies. But I suspect most people will both use proxies of cards from the older sets and also set a more normal edh budget.

Anyways, just a deckbuilding challenge I've found enjoyable :)

See you all next week,

- Rose Willis
