Today you get to read me explain why I'm not buying any Unfinity boxes for product on launch. I know within myself there's an unreasonable hatred of stickers, I've talked about that before, but there more it it than that.
Un-sets in general don't sell well because a vast majority of people don't want cards they can't play in constructed. Whether or not this is why Unfinity is black-boarded is not certain, but I can't not see it being a contributing factor.
So with that in mind:
Opening boxes is ALWAYS a loss leader. It's just a matter of how much a loss it is.
Half of the Unfinity set is not legacy in black-boarded Magic.
The half that is, includes both Stickers and Attractions, both of which are incredibly divisive mechanics. Some people love them and other hate them and hope that if they ignore them for long enough that they will go away.
With all this going on, opening Unfinity boxes is something that is not something we feel we can justify the cost of by opening boxes.
We will still be taking in buylists, and adding cards as time goes on, but it's just that you won't see anything from us on launch.
In other news. David and I will be in Invercargill for the Undy Hundy 15th/16th of October. If there are any cards in the store you'd like us to bring down, either to save on shipping or to sort out a trade while we are down (remember to choose bank transfer as payment method if you want to trade/sort out in person) now is the time to start doing so. David and I are looking forward to seeing you all down there :)
