Hi all,
So you may have seen some price increases in our bulk prices. We've increased our NM floors. NM rares are now at least 80 cents (up from 50), NM uncommons are now at least 50 cents (up from 30) and uncommons 60 cents (up from 40). Today I want to discuss why these changes have been made.
The short version is this is an area that is losing us money and we need to fix it.
The long version is that I continue to be bad at math. As I looked into it, if my employee graded, sorted, and put away 500 commons at 30 cents each in the store, then the time he took to do so cost me in work hours exactly the same amount as those 500 cards would sell for. That's if we got the cards for free, and I ignore the fact that I have to pay taxes when I sell these cards.
Obviously this can't continue, which leaves me with 3 options, though really only the 1 I've chosen.
Decrease my employee's wages.
Stop selling these cards (which would include a lot of Pauper, Premodern, and Token cards).
Increase our prices.
So you can see how I've come to the conclusion that I have. It's hard to keep up with Pauper when we don't open any cards from the new set, and only really play the prerelease, but we try our best. We have a ton of bulky cards from the premodern era that have been sitting in boxes waiting to be sorted because of exactly this issue. And I know some of you really like that we have been supplying tokens and fancy basic land for you to take your pick of.
We do have something else in the works, and I'll elaborate once I've worked out all the details. In the meantime, I hope you'll keep it in mind and understand our position as we move forward. It turns out that specializing in having stock for lesser-played formats comes with a cost, and one we are only just fully realizing.
